Seasonal Part -Time Tax Preparers – Franklin County

Solutions That Empower People (STEP), Inc. is seeking dependable, detail-oriented individuals to join our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the upcoming 2027 tax season. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to earn extra income while learning a valuable skill and helping individuals and families in our community.

Position Details

Location: Rocky Mount, VA

Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week

Salary: $17 Hourly

Employment Period: Late January through mid-April 2027

Experience: Preferred, but not required. Training provided!

Work Environment: Behind-the-scenes, non-customer-facing position.

Position Responsibilities

Prepare federal and Virginia state income tax returns for eligible individuals and families through STEP’s free tax preparation program. This is a non-customer-facing position. Clients will drop off their tax documents for preparation, allowing Tax Preparers to focus on accurately completing returns without conducting face-to-face tax preparation appointments.

Qualifications

Candidates should have basic computer skills, strong attention to detail, and good organizational skills. The ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal information is essential. No previous tax preparation experience is necessary! Training will be provided, but candidates must be willing to successfully complete the required IRS VITA training and certification.

Senior Meals Driver – Franklin County

Solutions That Empower People, Inc. (STEP), a multifaceted community action agency, has an opening for a part-time Senior Meals Driver in Franklin County, VA. The Senior Meals Driver will deliver meals to participants of the Senior Meals Program while providing friendly interaction, monitoring meal temperatures, distributing menus and program information, and observing participants’ general health and well-being. This position also includes completing required documentation, collecting donations, and responding appropriately to emergencies when necessary.

The qualifications for this position include a High School Diploma, a valid Virginia Driver’s License with a good driving record, strong communication and time-management skills, the ability to work well with senior citizens, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Experience working with diverse populations is preferred. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 40–45 lbs. for short intervals and push or pull up to 300 lbs. on a wheeled device. All required background checks must be successfully completed.

STEP, Inc. is seeking a knowledgeable and organized professional to oversee comprehensive health services for children and families participating in our Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

This position supervises Health Advocates, coordinates child health screenings and follow-up services, oversees health plans and medication procedures, supports nutrition and mental health coordination, and ensures compliance with applicable health and safety requirements.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, health education, health services, nutrition, social work, human services, or a closely related field required. Key Responsibilities:
