Tanner is an inspiring single mother of four whose journey with STEP, Inc. began in 2022 when her eldest child, Royal, enrolled in the Head Start program. Since then, her younger children, Alora, Gannon, and Gunnar, have participated in both Early Head Start and Head Start, allowing Tanner to stay closely involved in their early education. Throughout the years, she has remained committed by attending parent meetings, engaging in classroom activities, and advocating for her children’s success.
In October 2025, Tanner reached a life-changing milestone by completing her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program. Her path to this achievement was anything but easy. She began nursing school nearly five years ago while raising her family and navigating financial pressures, academic demands, and the emotional weight of self-doubt. Along the way, Tanner faced setbacks, including not passing the NCLEX on her first attempt. During this same period, she welcomed three more children, making the challenge even greater.
Despite these obstacles, Tanner’s determination never wavered. Through countless late nights, moments of frustration, and personal sacrifice, she continued to push forward. Her perseverance paid off when she successfully passed the NCLEX and earned her LPN through Patrick & Henry Community College.
Today, Tanner stands proud, not only of her professional accomplishment but also of the example she has set for her children. Her story is a powerful reminder that with resilience, support, and persistence, it is possible to achieve your dreams, even while balancing the many demands of life.
