Diapers are an essential but often overlooked necessity for infants, toddlers, older children, adults with disabilities, and seniors. For many families, the cost of diapers is a significant financial burden, forcing some to make difficult choices between purchasing diapers and other critical needs like food or housing. This is where STEP, Inc.’s Diaper Bank comes in—to ensure that everyone in our community has access to clean diapers, regardless of their family’s financial situation.
STEP, Inc. launched the Diaper Bank internally in December 2024. During this first phase, over 60 STEP, Inc. families received diapers and wipes. In January 2025, STEP, Inc. opened the program to nonprofit partners, allowing them to refer clients for this service. Now, in the spring of 2025, STEP, Inc.’s Diaper Bank is fully open to any member of the public in need in Franklin or Patrick County.
The Diaper Bank is funded by a mix of private funds, grants, and in-kind donations. STEP, Inc.’s Diaper Bank has been heavily supported by Carter Bank and Trust through their holiday diaper drive, the Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia, and STEP’s Board of Directors.
