Executive Director

Solutions That Empower People, Inc. (STEP), a non-profit community action agency, with a $5M budget, is seeking an Executive Director. STEP is a dynamic community action agency that provides services at significant milestones throughout life.  Programs are designed to partner with individuals and families to help them overcome adversity and enhance their quality of life through community, economic, personal, and family development. STEP is headquartered in Rocky Mount and is the designated community action agency for Franklin and Patrick counties.  STEP also provides services in Bedford, Pittsylvania, and Henry counties, as well as the cities of Martinsville and Danville. The successful candidate will foremost demonstrate a strong background in finance, fundraising, strategic planning, direct staff supervision, and Board relations. 

In addition to the overall management of the agency, the Executive Director is responsible for personnel management, program and development (including evaluation and refinement of services), community networking, public relations, grant writing, and fund development, and actively participating in national, state and regional community action efforts. The Executive Director reports to STEP’s Board of Directors.

A minimum of 5 years of experience leading a comparable non-profit agency as an Executive Director or a senior manager is required.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field is required.  A Master’s Degree is preferred.  Candidate must understand the objectives and methods of anti-poverty programs and illustrate a commitment to the goal of empowering low-income people with diverse backgrounds. Strong history of direct fiscal management, as well as a working knowledge of non-profit grants management regulations, is required. 

Benefits include health, dental & disability insurance, PTO, and 401K.  The salary range for this position is $72,200.00 - $80,500.00 annually.

Head Start Teacher Assistants
STEP, Inc. has an opening for two Head Start Teacher Assistants in Franklin County. This is a full-time 10-month position that is responsible for assisting in the planning and carrying out the educational program and the day-to-day operations of the classroom.  The qualifications for this position include a CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets the requirements for a CDA credential, one-year experience working with pre-school age children, excellent written and oral communication skills, basic computer skills, and familiarity with the ethnic backgrounds of the children we serve. The salary range for this position will be $10.39 - $13.46 per hour.  Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, disability insurance, paid time off, and 401K.

Early Head Start Infant/Toddler Teacher

STEP Inc. has an opening for Infant/Toddler Teacher in Franklin County, VA. The Infant/Toddler Teacher will be responsible for the care, safety, and well-being of the children enrolled in the Early Head Start Program.

STEP, Incorporated is currently seeking qualified applicants for Head Start / Early Head Start substitute teacher positions in Patrick County. These positions are responsible for assisting in planning and carrying out the educational program and the day-to-day operations of the classroom. Hours and days will vary according to need. Qualifications include a High School Diploma/GED, a minimum of one year of professional experience working with children ages infant-preschool, proficient oral and written skills, and familiarity with the ethnic background of the children we serve. Hourly rate of $7.84.
